With the COVID-19 virus now classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), and the call by health officials to start social distancing measures, where does that leave those who regularly train at local gyms? You want to stay safe, and not spread the virus, but at the same time, you don’t want months or even years of training to be derailed either. Or like many, your gym time is part of your mental health protocol. While this very significant health emergency must be taken seriously, we have to find ways to mitigate the disruption to our daily lives and take care of our health.
The most important thing, is keeping yourself healthy. So, let’s start with the basics.
Keep your immune system strong.
Social Distancing. If you prefer not to go to the gym, there are still ways to keep moving and stay healthy.
At this point, the virus can’t be contained, only mitigated to avoid overloading the healthcare system and reducing the risk to the elderly and those with underlying health conditions. While changes will need to be made to how we go about our daily lives, we can still keep our health and fitness goals in mind, and adjust accordingly.
